You can almost feel her heart skip a beat when she looks at him. And if you look closely at her beautiful greenish blue eyes, you can see the contentment in her spirit. There’s joy and peace and happiness. Happiness for another chance at being able to hold her man close. The man who stole her heart and made her complete. Genuine joy that he is now back here with her after being separated from him by distance while he was honorably serving our country in Iraq for the last year.
For Justin & Kayla, it didn’t take very long for both of them to know that they belonged together. When they first met each other, they knew. That was all it took, they then spent the next few weeks falling in love. It all felt right, up to that moment that Justin proposed to her, determined that neither time nor distance would ever keep them apart.
From the moment we met this beautiful couple, we immediately fell in love with their charm and their genuine passion for life and for each other. I just know that documenting their wedding next year will be ultra fabulous! They really are two of the most joyful people to be around and I’m so sure that this will be an indication of how fun and how full of love and laughter their wedding day will be.
We shot their engagement session a few weeks ago in Bayview Beach one early morning right before a rainstorm. We had dramatic clouds, great light, the beautiful and surreal low tide, and a couple that was genuinely in love. What else could we ask for. Here are the first few shots of the day and they turned out to be one of my favorites.

Okay, I’ve been super busy lately with building the new studio, remodeling part of the house, teaching college, editing, doing portrait shoots, trying to map out plans 2009, being a mom to 3 kids…and trying hard to be a good wife that I’ve fallen behind on blogging lately. But today I had to take some time out to share with you a great family portrait shoot Joe & I did with this amazing family.
Joe & I headed out to Anacortes last weekend for a portrait shoot with Megan’s family over at beautiful Lake Washington. We had to keep a close eye on the weather report since it was raining pretty much all week and I was afraid we were going to have to cancel that day. Well, it turned out to be a gorgeous day so we went ahead and met at the beach.
The whole shoot turned out to be so much fun! With 10 people, 4 dogs and 3 puppies how can it not be anything but FUN! We had a blast laughing with Megan’s family as we following them with our cameras and caught some beauttiful moments between them as they walked along the beach. I think I laughed so hard that day my ribs hurt!
Thank so much Megan & Rod and to your wonderful family (and dogs 🙂 for spending that time with us and allowing us to capture the love you had for each other. I had so much fun editing these photos. So here they are, hot off the editing studio. Enjoy!
And look what we saw before we left the Lake that day…

Last summer we were contacted by a mother whose little girl was about to celebrate her 5th birthday. We were delighted to find out that they were going to surprise her with the cutest little cocker spaniel puppy and that they wanted us to capture this special moment in their daughter’s life. The story of how they surprised little Savvy with her puppy gift is another blog story in itself. Their dad, Josh, a talented graphic artist and their amazing mom Brooke, planned an incredible Scooby Doo themed party for her complete with wooden stand up Scooby Doo figures and custom invites. And these cool props were created by Josh!
We planned on meeting them over at Bayview Park so we can spend the afternoon capturing Savannah’s sweet personality and documenting with our cameras her afternoon with cute little Ginger.
There was a magical bond between our cameras and Savvy that day. She was completely comfortable in front of our cameras and we were able to capture some amazing images of her cute little 5 year old personality.
Here are some of our favorite shots from the day:
Don’t you just love these puppy dog eyes? And Savvy’s expression here is so adorable!
What a gorgeous little girl! She just knew how to smile, how to pose. She required very little coaching from us. We were just delighted to work with her.
We brought some Calla Lillies that day, Savvy took them and ran off to play in the beach…
Savvy’s face reminds me of someone from the Victorian era. She just has this beautiful classic face.
The quality of light that afternoon was just incredible.
And finally, here’s Savvy and her sweet little puppy Ginger. Ginger almost looks unreal…what an unbelievably cute little red haired pup!
Have a great 5th year Savvy and have a fun Kindergarten year too! Thanks again Brooke & Josh for spending that afternoon with us and allowing us to be a small part of your beautiful family’s life. We really enjoyed getting to know you.
